Dr Wendy Were talks of the transformation that the Arts and Cultural industry is facing as part of the Know My Name Conference 2020. The Know My Name Conference aimed to celebrate all women as artists, activists, researchers, intellectuals and mentors now and into the future. It was virtual conference presented by the National Gallery of Australia, in collaboration with the Australia Council for the Arts, Australian National University School of Art & Design, University of Melbourne and UNSW Art & Design.

Dr Wendy Were was the Executive Director, Advocacy and Development at the Australia Council. Wendy has held many creative and leadership roles over the last two decades, including Artistic Director and Chief Executive of Sydney Writers' Festival, CEO of West Australian Music, Business Advisor with the Creative Industries Innovation Centre, and Producer at the Perth Festival. Were completed her PhD in English in the top 5%, her thesis was Reading the Wound: Trauma, Narrative and Memory in the novels of Toni Morrison.
