Be what you can't see: one writer's journey

This speech was made to launch a comprehensive report about women refugee and migrant experiences in Australia. In this speech, Nyuon reflects on her personal experience coming to Australia as a refugee and about growing up in Australia as someone who was not born in Australia. She speaks about a multicultural vision for Australia, one where racism is not tolerated, where women feel safe in the street and in their homes and where migrants are not subject to coercive control as a consequence of their visa status.

Prof Tay was asked to discuss the contribution of women from diverse cultures to Australia - a very broad topic and she acknowledges not wanting to be presumptuous in her comments. She takes 3 angles to the topic - cultural diversity in relation to women's identities and experiences in Australian society, defining women's contributions in different ways, and noting some particular aspects of contributions.
