Maxine Beneba Clarke is an Australian writer and poet of Afro-Caribbean descent. Clarke was a title holder of the NSW Writers' Centre/Gleebooks Annual Poetry Sprint and was a finalist in the Melbourne Writers' Festival Poetry Slam. Her short plays have been produced and her poetry broadcast on radio and presented at writers' festivals. In 2023, Clarke was appointed the inaugural Peter Steele Poet in Residence at the University of Melbourne.
