Rose Scott was an Australian women's suffragist. She became famous in Sydney in the 1880s for her social gatherings, where writers, thinkers and politicians would meet regularly at her home. Scott advocated to improve conditions for women who worked in shops and factories, in addition to women prisoners. In 1981 Scott and others established the Womanhood Suffrage League of New South Wales, campaigning for women's right to vote. After women were granted the right to vote in Australia in 1902, Scott began teaching women how to vote.
